What Is Diagnostics Chat?
Diagnostics Chat is an AI assistant built into the CrewBrix app that helps technicians troubleshoot equipment problems in real time. Instead of searching manuals or calling the office, a technician can describe the symptom or enter an error code and get immediate guidance.
Opening Diagnostics Chat
From the AI Hub tab, tap Diagnostics Chat. You can also access it from within a job by tapping the AI icon in the job detail toolbar.
When accessed from a job, the chat already knows the job type and any equipment details you've logged — so you don't need to re-enter context.
What You Can Ask
Diagnostics Chat is trained on HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and general contracting knowledge. You can ask questions like:
- "What does error code E5 mean on a Carrier furnace?"
- "The compressor isn't starting but the fan is running — what should I check?"
- "Customer has low water pressure throughout the house. Walk me through diagnosing it."
- "What's the correct wire gauge for a 240V 30A circuit?"
Error Code Lookup
Tap Error Code Lookup in the chat toolbar. Enter:
- Equipment brand — e.g. Carrier, Trane, Rheem, Lennox, Mitsubishi.
- Model number (optional but improves accuracy).
- Error code — exactly as displayed on the unit.
The AI returns the meaning of the code, likely causes, and recommended next steps.
Documenting the Diagnosis
At the end of a Diagnostics Chat session, tap Save to Job. The chat summary (symptom, diagnosis, recommended action) is attached to the job's Notes automatically.
This creates a clear paper trail and ensures the office knows exactly what was found on-site.
Limitations
Diagnostics Chat is a decision-support tool, not a replacement for professional judgement. Always:
- Follow manufacturer safety guidelines.
- Verify guidance against actual service manuals when working on life-safety systems.
- Escalate to a senior technician or manufacturer support line for complex or ambiguous situations.
The AI is updated regularly with new equipment knowledge, but it may not have data on the very latest models or niche brands. If you get an "I don't have information on that model" response, use the Error Code Lookup with the model number for a broader search.
